It was a wintry start to the day, but it didn't stop us from heading up to the Jane Cameron National Archives in the minibus.
Chloe Anderson, the Corporate Records and National Archives Manager, kindly offered to give a tour of the Archives. After the tour Diana Aldridge and Kaydee Jones assisted Chloe in showing the group information on the two subjects the groups were studying.
Dividing the teams in two, group one was studying the shipwreck Guvernoren, and group two, St Mary's Church. The group took lots of notes ready for their projects.
We then headed back to the Museum for a quick spot of lunch before sitting down and putting together their projects. Sandra had lots of reading material ready and waiting. The group had 2 hours to put their project together and the standard of work was impressive.
We hope that this will become an annual event in corroboration with the Jane Cameron National Archives. We believe that it is important to help children understand where you can carry out research, and who can help, for projects like the Jane and Alastair Cameron History Project.
Both groups who completed their projects were treated to a gift kindly donated by Joan Spruce so a huge thank you to Joan for her support. Sandra was also so impressed that she gave each individual a sweet treat. Well done to all involved. Thanks must also go to Shirley for volunteering to help.
Special thanks to Chloe Anderson, Diana Aldridge and Kaydee Jones at the Jane Cameron National Archives - we were very impressed with how you encapsulate, preserve and store delicate documents, maps and photos.
