Frequently Asked Questions

How can I pay at the Museum?
Pounds  Sterling (GBP), US Dollars (USD) or Euros are all accepted.  Please be  aware that we cannot take any marked/ripped dollars or euros as the bank  will not accept these.  Please also note that we are unable to change  the exchange rate on a daily basis and will only adjust this once or  twice through the summer, or if fluctuations are particularly large. We  will try to offer a reasonable rate while ensuring that we can cover our  costs.

Visa and Mastercard are acceptable, but regrettably we  are not able to accept other cards such as Diners’ Club or American  Express.

Can I take photographs in the Museum?
You  are welcome to take flash-free photographs for non-commercial purposes  throughout the Museum and Cartmell Cottage. Commercial photography is  not permitted except with the express permission of the Museum Manager.

Can I buy souvenirs at the Museum?
Yes,  we have a gift shop offering some interesting and unique items. There  are several souvenir shops in Stanley, so we focus on stocking goods  made in the Falkland Islands.

Falklands Collectibles can be found within the museum grounds.  They offer coins, stamps, first day covers and much, much more!

Can I get something to eat or drink at the Museum?
The Teaberry Cafe offers a wide range of beverages and snacks - from soup to sandwiches and salads to sweet treats.

Are babies and toddlers welcome?
We  say start them young! Yes, your children are very welcome at both the  Historic Dockyard Museum and Cartmell Cottage and there is no charge for  under-5s.

Please note that the Museum is pushchair friendly but  we are not able to offer a baby care room. However, should you need  somewhere to change or feed your baby, please speak to a member of staff  who may be able to offer you a quiet, clean and private space to do  this.

Is the Museum suitable for visitors with disabilities?
Generally,  yes. The Museum is wheelchair accessible – Cartmell Cottage is not.  However, some displays may cause problems for individuals with hearing  or sight impediments.

Can I bring my dog?
We welcome Guide Dogs and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, but there are not really facilities for leaving other dogs outside safely.

Are displays in more than one language?
No, our displays and literature are in English only.

How do I find you?

We are right in the centre of Stanley - only a five minute walk from the Jetty Visitors Centre. We are located back from the road slightly and therefore can be missed. Keep an out for the  Malvina House Hotel (we are opposite) and the Penguin News office (we are behind).
